WPA Federal Art Project

The Work Projects Administration (WPA) was a part of the New Deal projects of the 1930′s. The Poster Collection consists of 907 posters produced from 1936 to 1943 by various branches of the WPA, all under the banner of a Federal Art Project. The posters were designed to publicize exhibits, community activities, theatrical productions, and health and educational programs in seventeen states and the District of Columbia. This project, the work it created and the lives it touched, were a huge inspiration for the Creative Action Network and thousands of other artists both for how they shaped the American aesthetic and the idea of government-sponsored art.
