Artist Statement

This painting is based on a photograph I took in Manhattan. It was a hot summer day, and these two young girls stood out as the protagonists. They symbolized so much to me: freedom, friendship, individuality, and curiosity. The Megabus itself has a strong meaning in the painting. When it comes to America, there are dreams and possibilities that are always worth exploring. What Makes America great are the opportunities that come our way, and the confidence we could build in accomplishing our dreams. Nothing should stop us from being who we truly are as individuals. - Monica Alisse
