Veronique Vanblaere (Vero), a Belgian artist, moved to Birmingham, AL in 1996, where she opened Naked Art, a gallery that focuses on non-traditional and functional art. Vero's mixed media sometimes morphs into much larger projects: in 2013, she painted every surface of Tau Poco, a restaurant owned by noted local chef Chris Dupont. She also gravitates towards fiber art, which includes sewing and creating wearable art, and has been recently orbiting around soft sculpture. Vero was a featured artist at Miami Art Basel 2014. She just finished an animated film "Bottomless", which she wrote, directed and illustrated, it features a character typical to her drawings and screened in over 27 film festivals around the world, including the Cannes Film Festival's short corner.

Stories inspire me and libraries are mind healers. I am a big fan of early sci-fi and it lent itself to plenty of visual imagery. I used ink and markers to create this design. — Veronique Vanblaere
