Artist Statement

My watercolor and digital illustration is from the point of view of a person sitting inside an idealized future light rail car. Prominent advertisements summarizing the values of the Green New Deal line the top of the car, and scenes of the Pacific Northwest (where I live and a huge environmental preservation concern) pass by the windows. I chose to center my illustration around public transit because I believe improved public transit fits into many of the Green New Deal's goals. Increased access to affordable transit improves equity in all communities, reduces emissions and may cut reliance on cars, and building and maintaining transit creates jobs for people of all backgrounds. - Chelsea Vaught
