Artist Statement

Perhaps Quincy Mine̢åÛåªs shafthouse isn̢åÛåªt a pretty structure, it̢åÛåªs corrugated metal and rust stands well apart from it̢åÛåªs surroundings but it̢åÛåªs arguably the most striking landmark on the Keweenaw skyline. In it̢åÛåªs day it hoisted up a fortune of copper to a growing nation and lowered men down to untold man-hours of toil. Today this iconic structure stands above an organization that continues to bring up wealth in the form of education with tours and displays, while still toiling to preserve it from the ravages of time.
