"Walt Whitman, the American poet, essayist and journalist, published his first edition of \"Leaves of Grass\" in 1855, but spent the rest of his life revising and adding to it. My digital treatment of the portrait is intended to be symbolic of the mosaic nature of Whitman\'s work starting as a modest collection of 12 poems, eventually growing into a larger volume of more than 400 poems about the American experience.
