Artist Statement

I wanted this poster to speak to the importance of the press and the work that professional journalists do everyday, providing a necessary check/balance in our complex society. Visually, I composited the front pages of newspapers from the past year as a background, then used a silhouette of the Statue of Liberty to represent freedom. The typography is positioned to represent a newspaper nameplate, further reinforcing the overall concept. — Carolyn Pavelkis
