"I tend to favor photography over illustration; minimalism over ornamentation. In this case, I I decided on a painting after I couldn't find a suitable photo of the DMV. Gustave Dor? did a series of illustrations for this story but I decided to go in a different direction. The cover is "Dante and Virgil Encountering the Shades of Francesca de Rimini and Paolo in the Underworld" by Ary Scheffer. It's been rotated 90 degrees in order to capture all the characters." - Scott Saslow
