I'm a graphic designer out of Oakland, with a special interest in activism and nonprofit causes. I originally studied Environmental Education in college where I first learned to design interpretive signage. I currently work in-house for the Sierra Club where we campaign to protect American wilderness, promote clean energy, and target polluters who harm the poorest and most vulnerable of our communities. Outside of work you'll find me rock climbing, playing guitar on the roof or trying to persuade people to go camping.

Artist Statement

Very few politicians are bold enough to oppose fracking, until the people demand it. California's governor Jerry Brown, who's been great on other issues, has decided poisoning our communities' water (primarily low income, primarily people of color) is acceptable. We must join the people of New York, and declare that clean water is a human right and elect leaders that stand up to the powerful Big Oil and Gas lobbyists. For this piece I used type similar to 60s and 70s posters, a peak time for U.S. activism. The grizzly bear represents the Californians' progressive fight we need to once again awaken. — Josh DeWare
