Artist Statement

Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. This insight is at least four centuries old, formulated by philosopher Francis Bacon during the Enlightenment. Though we now head into a new Dark Age in which Republicans intend to unwind eight years of hard-fought social and economic progress, the statement has lost nothing in terms of relevance and significance: Knowledge is more powerful than ever (just look at how Russia's hacking and calculated misinformation campaigns rigged an archaic election process in favor of a corrupt demagogue) and education is the fundamental precondition for political development, democracy and social justice. It is my hope that our education system improves and fosters a new generation of egalitarian intellectuals that can save our country from the draconian policies and 'all for one, none for all' mentality of the GOP. — David Hays
