Artist Statement

King Biscuit Time was a major breakthrough for African-American music and its reach into the untapped demographic was immeasurable. By 1947 the first black disc jockey in the South, Early Wright, had been signed at WROX. Across the river in Memphis, WDIA, soon became the first radio station in the South with an all black staff and to include deejay B.B. King with a musical format based on the success of King Biscuit Time. The future of many American musicians was greatly inspired by and credited to King Biscuit Time. - Ramona Mayer
