Artist Statement

McDonald Observatory\'s 82-inch telescope was built in 1939 during the era of WPA projects. The site where the telescope is located in Fort Davis was selected for its dark skies and pristine air. McDonald Observatory works with the local communities to preserve its dark skies today while many other parts of the country suffer from too much lighting and/or poor lighting designs. ‰ÛÓ Aaron Bates (UTexas)
