Artist Statement

I created a book cover for Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen, depicting the contrast and conflict between the two main characters, Elizabeth and Darcy, through the use of silhouettes and overlapping colors of a red tone and blue tone. Darcy's letter is also alluded to through the use of torn paper and handwritten lettering. I chose these specific elements in order to portray the true friction between the characters, as well as to stray away from the traditional portrayal of women during this time period. - Stephanie Lamb
