Artist Statement

My sister and brother-in-law took a driving trip from Colorado to California to explore some sights and see relatives along the way. After stopping to see us in Sacramento, they wanted to drive up the coast to see their son in Washington. We talked about our favorite spots that we had always loved in California and I had pointed out that Point Reyes was one of my favorite places. They should not miss it on their way north. They did go and loved it, of course. Point Reyes National Seashore is a beautiful park where the Pacific Ocean meets the grassy hillside. This iconic view is unique to Point Reyes a breath-taking view of land and sea. It has a diverse plant and wildlife, over 1500 species of plants and animals. It is one of the few places that you can see both elephant seals and Tule Elk along the beaches. The Miwok Indians, settlers and ranchers have all claimed this area, but now it is preserved for all of us to enj ‰ÛÓ Lyla Paakkanen
