Artist Statement

The Howard University Founders Library was designed by African American Architect and Howard University Professor Albert I. Cassell. Historians have noted that the accomplished architect, Albert I. Cassell, designed the building with partial inspiration drawn from Philadelphia's Independence Hall. Founders Library opened its doors in 1939 as the largest HBCU (Historically Black College and/or University) research facility. The Founders Library also overlooks the quad (yard) for many of the inaugural chapters of Prominent African American Incorporated Sororities and Fraternities. Howard University has been a pivotal University in the historical significance of the Nation‰۪s Capital Washington, D.C. Thurgood Marshall and Charles Hamilton Houston compiled legal research for the pivotal Brown v Board of Education Supreme Court Cases at Founders Library. At the age of 16 Howard University‰۪s track was the first University level track that I visited. Its with great pride to design this 2016 newly designated National Treasure, The Founders Library at Howard University. ‰ÛÓ Ginnie McKnight
