Artist Statement

This piece was inspired by the current inhuman treatment of the refugee families, that have been separated by the 1 billion dollar industry known as I.C.E. We should question why they continue to target and deport brown and black refugees. These refugees risk their life to cross the border just for a shot at the American dream. The trauma that has been caused to the kids that are being kept in cages on top of being separated from their parents, is despicable. How can we continue to call this the land of the free when these refugees have been called animals and have been treated as such. - Alma Aviña
