Poe's authorship has been hugely influential, feeding our cravings for tales of the dark and mysterious. Innumerable works of art, paintings, films, songs, fashion, and of course books have drawn inspiration from the narratives of this cursed man, born and orphaned in my hometown of Boston. While his gothic legacy is so familiar, many may think that his sensibilities can be consumed entirely through our pop culture. I created this cover to encourage the reading of his stories themselves. Curling up with a book is an intimate relationship between writer and reader. Here's the first stanza from The Raven. I hope it whets your appetite for more. "Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore— While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door. “’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—Only this and nothing more.” — Adam S. Doyle
