Artist Statement

My cousin was a holocaust survivor, escaping Auschwitz Concentration Camp, after losing most of her family and friends. She was one tough woman, and an inspiration to almost everyone she met. I decided in my poster to focus on the only visible scar she had left from her tragedy, her concentration camp tattoo. The atrocities she faced, always followed her and much like her tattoo never faded, yet her arrival to New York post-war, provided my cousin with a new life, family and optimism that no tattoo could color over. — Joshua Sierra
