Artist Statement

I read Anne of Green Gables when I was in 6th grade, and remember thinking that Anne\'s puffed sleeves were REALLY COOL. I wanted to include a picture of her wearing puffed sleeves, and I wanted to avoid the soft, romantic pictures of a girl with a straw hat surrounded by farmhouse/field/flowers. I listened to the audio book to refresh myself on the story, and was struck by how much Anne talks. The word balloons in this piece are meant to show that Anne is always surrounded by her own words. — Coral Nafziger
