Artist Statement

A nation's strength is reflected in its literature, and the United States has given birth to some of the greatest writers of our time. My design celebrates the iconic literary figures of the early 20th century - Ernest Hemingway, Mark Twain, John Steinbeck - while recognizing that as white men, they only reflect a segment of the rich fabric that is America. Their excerpts serve as backdrop to a more inclusive collection of great works by American authors like Alice Walker, Maxine Hong Kingston, Junot Diaz, Khaled Hosseini and Hellen Keller. — Ray Wan
