Artist Statement

My Grandfather, Joanis Lozos, arrived at Ellis Island on October 7, 1907 at age 33, with his wife, from Levadia, Greece aboard the ship "Sicilian Prince" sailing from the port of Piraeus. They left Greece in troubled times, seeking work and a new life. This photo is first family portrait taken in the U.S. a few years later in 1918. My father, Evangelos, is the small boy in the center of the picture. — Chris Lozos
