I'm Skylar Francis, a Junior at Columbia College Chicago studying Illustration, and planning to continue on to obtain a Master's of Science in Biomedical Communications to become a Medical Illustrator. A lot of my work is traditionally done, and watercolor, colored pencil, and markers are my favorite mediums to work in. I've had a strong passion for art ever since I was a child, but never thought of it as a career until high school when I had the most amazing art teacher (Nick DiGioia) who taught me everything I know. I'm so grateful to have been his student because this is my true passion and I cannot wait to further my career.

Artist Statement

For my class, Illustration Studio, we were assigned to create a National Park poster for the Creative Action Network campaign See America. I chose the Everglades National Park because my grandparents lived in Florida when they were still around, so my family and I would make trips every summer to the Everglades, so I have fond memories. For the traditional work, I used watercolor and colored pencil, then it was scanned in for digital rendering; I used Adobe Photoshop and Procreate. - Skylar Francis
