Artist Statement

Ever since I was a child, reading at night by the hallway light coming through the crack in my bedroom door, books have been an escape to other worlds. I grew up in a home with no TV. I never felt disadvantaged or envious of friends. Instead, I read and read and read. I’ve met more characters and been to more worlds and far away places than I can remember. I still make these journeys as an adult. Temporarily, thanks to a 3 year old and a baby, I have a little less time for reading and I really miss my books. They are waiting patiently in a growing pile by my bedside while I wait impatiently to get back to them. I was first introduced to Gulliver’s Travels at a young age thanks to a beautifully detailed pop up book - I vividly remember the page where Gulliver is tied down by the Lilliputians. — Naomi Sloman
