Artist Statement

The poster piece, Ocean Health, focuses on a particular environmental crisis of ocean pollution. The piece is a digital artwork in which portrays an image of a fish and a turtle caught between a plastic wrap while polluted water flows in the background: a simplified depiction of the ocean. In the current day, many of the organisms thriving under the ocean are suffering due to pollution, the remnants of convenience, humans have created. The unnumbered amount of waste, microplastics, and chemicals that are consumed by such ocean creatures are all created by humans and should be held accountable as the perpetrator of the issue. In order to emphasize the severity of the problem and to incentivize people to act up, the phrase "what affects them affects us" to claim the viewers of the poster as stakeholders of the crisis. By viewing the poster, the artist wishes to raise awareness about this ocean crisis. - Arim Seo
