Artist Statement

Reducing the gap between the wealthiest Americans and low-wage workers is one of the greatest challenges we face in our country today. Unfortunately, we have been fighting this battle for a very long time. The design of the piece uses colors, texture, and shapes--including a modified Rosie the Riveter pose--to evoke an understanding of the struggle and to call upon the memory of those who have fought for labor rights for so many decades. Hopefully, this piece can serve as a sort of rallying cry for all of the domestic, construction, and fast food workers that I see every day. To the farm workers, the nurses, municipal workers, and all others who are struggling to bring home a living wage through the honest hard work, I salute you! — Michael Czerniawski
