Artist Statement

I was inspired by Alice Paul's amazing story. I decided to use her as a main focus of the poster, along with the monument. I feel this reflects her strength and presence as a feminist. In the background young women are shown waving flags in a New York City parade at the beginning of 20th century, embracing and supporting Paul and the house. I included the message "Votes for Women" on the right hand-side, the main message of the suffrage movement. I used the colour palette of the stained-glass window at the entrance of the house. ‰ÛÓ Melly Wells
