Born and raised under the Big Skies of Montana, I've always had a passion for the environment; it's what gives me the motivation and inspiration to create. When I was 18 I packed my bags and headed west thinking I was going to be a social worker and change the world. This was the first of many different paths in college that shaped the way I conceptualize design. I am interested in increasing social, enviromental, and economic awareness through different media outlets. I graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Graphic Design, and minoring in Community Development. I work with small businesses, higher education and non-profits, while collaborating with different artists on independent projects.

Artist Statement

People have forgotten that we share this land with many other species, and our ecosystem works because of all living things. Deforestation not only effects plants and animals, but it effects humans. We all breathe the trees. They are centuries old and carry much wisdom and yet it takes humans minutes to cut them down. For this piece I wanted to take a more positive approach to environmental protest with a simple message and illustration that makes you remember that we share this land. Most people understand the effects of what we do. But what motivates a person to make the change? We must collectively begin to understand that humans are not the only ones who live here and that we all play a part in the life of mother earth. — Marissa Leitch
