Artist Statement

My sister runs marathons and she has always had her dogs to run with her. I decided to paint her and her running partner, Kirby, a rescued dalmatian. Kirby has been slowing down lately as he ages. But he still runs with her. She just finished the Boston Marathon this morning, with a pretty good time, so I wanted to upload this painting to honor all of her dalmatians that have been her support through the years, helping her to qualify to run the Boston every year. I have gotten back to painting again, instead of the digital images that I had been creating with the Adobe programs. This one is painted completely in watercolor. It feels good to work with paint again. — Lyla Paakkanen
