Artist Statement

The design represents the battle of lake Erie through the battle below which transforms into a beam of hope and peace that illuminates the Perry Victory and International Peace Memorial. The linear panes in the design mimic the windows from which the monument can be viewed in the visitor's center. In the water below are both design plans of hulls similar to those used by Commodore Perry, as well as, diagrams which show a "play by play" of the vessel's movements that led to the British surrender that day. ‰ÛÓ Joel Knueven
