Artist Statement

This is an image of my late mother in law and her brother, circa 1949 Lofer, Austria. It reminds me of the Sound of Music. Because Eva and Helmut were orphaned Holocaust survivors, the Lutheran church sponsored them to immigrate to the U.S. At that time, Eva was 13 and Helmut was 15 years old. Human beings have always been migrating since the beginning of time, regardless of borders, etc. We just have an internal drive to survive and strive for a better life. — Sara Chang
