Artist Statement

Heidi is the story of a strong, intelligent, cheerful girl who inspires life and vitality to all she encounters. As a young child, I was gifted a copy of Heidi while recovering from a leg injury that left me temporarily immobile. Heidi's determined spirit and her friendship with Clara, who was also learning to walk again, was very formative and has stayed with me ever since. I wanted to capture Heidi and her animal companions against the vast beauty of the Swiss Alps, in a playful style using soft shapes and vibrant natural colors. — Helen Shewolfe Tseng
