I am an illustrator, designer, and letterpress printer living in the Bay Area. I am also one-half of Shipwright & Co., a letterpress company I started in 2013 with a good friend. We print each piece by hand on a Chandler & Price letterpress that dates back to 1911, and hand-trim each piece on a giant antique Guillotine paper cutter from the 1930s. The majority of work created for clients at Shipwright & Co. begins with custom illustrations we create, which are then transformed into one-of-a-kind and handmade printed pieces.

Artist Statement

This design was originally made for a seasonal espresso from Ritual Coffee Roasters. The year's espressos were all inspired by animals native to the state of California, and the first one I wanted to draw was a gray wolf. Shortly after I made this drawing, for the first time in nearly a century, a pack of gray wolves was sited in California. The wolves' threatened existence is tragic. They are majestic creatures and deserve to be treated as such. — Jen Kruch
