Artist Statement

This poster integrates international symbols of air, earth and water with the text for each. I added a simple clipart graphic of a ladybug because ladybugs symbolize luck and abundance, among many other positive meanings associated with it throughout the world. Moreover, ladybugs are considered to be beneficial insects insofar as they consume aphids, a common agricultural pest. In short, there is a strong association between ladybugs and the well-being of the earth. Unfortunately, the ladybug art introduces two additional colors (red and black) beyond the limit of three. I hope that the judges will consider a waiver in this case due to the impact that the red color brings to the design. — Anthony Iacuzzi
