A Maya legend in Central America tells that the hummingbird is actually the Sun in disguise, sent to earth to court his greatest love, the Moon. The myth doesn't seem to follow either the mythology of Ixchel, the moon goddess, or the Popul Vuh that describes the moon as the twin brother of the sun. This left me room to imagine the Sun and Moon as two young men, hopelessly in love, eternally chasing after one another. The hummingbird is a gift, molded by the Sun's iridescent rays, to the Moon. - Baggio Ardon
