Artist Statement

Being a huge animal lover, I chose The Story of Doctor Dolittle to illustrate. Doctor Dolittle travels throughout the globe, so the backdrop of the illustration are vintage maps in blue, like the sea. Ploynisa is an African gray parrot that teaches Doctor Dolittle how to talk to the animals, so I wanted her has a central focal point. Lastly, the top hat represents Doctor Dolittle himself. The design and colors reach out to both children and adults. — Karri Owens
