Artist Statement

My work is wholly inspired by nature. I like to remind people of what we have on this planet and the importance thereof and what we have already destroyed. By painting and drawing animals that are becoming extinct or endangered, I raise awareness about the trades and industries that have created the destruction of the species. By showing the beauty of all these animals I hope to inspire people to act and consider the consequences that their actions might have. Diving and spending time in nature allows me to observe and be surrounded by the wonder of this planet that I like to recreate in a more playful manner. Most of my drawings are a combination of watercolour and coloured pencils, I prefer to work in watercolour as the medium has an element of defiance and follows its’ own path during the painting process just as nature can thrive in some of the harshest environments in the world. — Anike Nurnberger
