I'm a 16 year old student from Metwest High School in Oakland, CA(born in New Orleans). I've been interested in art for a really long time and I love to use my creativity and talent to draw portraits. I like to use all different types of mediums when creating a piece but watercolor paint has recently became a favorite. I live in a huge family, and the majority of us are artistic. Im extremely passionate about art, cooking, interior design, and the medical field. In the future I hope to incorporate all of my interest into my life.

Artist Statement

I made a piece about the ocean its water quality, showing a shark/jellyfish in the water with trash. When I think about the planet I think about the lives of all living things. Many species of animals in the ocean are increasingly becoming endangered because of pollution. So I wanted to create an image showing how our everyday life decisions can impact other living creatures' health and habitats. So my piece is a reminder to be mindful of your actions, and think of ways we can help the lives of animals that we share this planet with. — Islah Zareef-Mustafa
