Artist Statement

The gusty beaches north of Santa Cruz hold a rare allure due to the monolithic beauty of the cliffs and the lack of human encroachment. I wanted to bring attention to the elegance of this unspoiled coastline. In the first step of my process, I drove along Highway 1 and took several pictures of the most amazing rock formations I could find. Then I used the images as inspiration and drafted my poster combining three of the best pictures. I used Photoshop for the first time to make the water and I drew the rest of the landscape in Illustrator. ‰ÛÓ John Waidhofer
