I'm a very beginning artist with aspirations to shift people from the 'hate' mentality to basing actions on what we love instead, on what we DO care about. I feel these are the most pure and progressive ways to act and most efficient ways to a desired outcome. Central to what I care about is improving the environmental state of the world: enriching biodiversity, protection habitat, protecting threatened species, clean air, clean water, conserving resources, better handling of waste, and living closer to our local land. I'm 39, female, and have seen the value of life, of courtesy, and community, and the power of nature to literally 'make us feel better' mentally and physically. We need to do better in all of these. I'm learning that art is my medium of most effective expression of encouragement and love to my community. I'll continue to use it as long as that's the case.

Artist Statement

Watercolor of a Monarch butterfly and a Common Milkweed. My art is my action and this piece is designed to, first, make your eyes and brain burst with awe and joy for the beauty of nature and then, secondly, make people think. I really don't care what people think at this point, as long as it's actual thinking and not some parrot's repetition act. There's not enough thinking going on or loving. Maybe people with think things like: What do I love? What do I care about? Is what I'm doing really to my full capacity to make the best life for me....oh, and maybe my kids too? Anything! Personally, ... - I'd love for people to get a sense from my painting to think about the long-term and long-term solutions, especially for our planet, and particularly to preserve the environment. - I'd love for people to feel empowered and reassured that the 'small' measures ARE the way forward - planting a garden for pollinators, bicycling/walking, buying local from your friends and neighbors and from total strangers in your community, and voting for environmentally friendly causes and candidates, whatever is in your capacity. - But really, if my art gives people even the slightest joy and cause for thinking, even a little bit, about the future of life on Earth, then I've done my job. - Daisy Hebb
