Meet the Artist: Vikram Nongmaithem

August 21, 2014

Vikram Nongmaithem is an artist from a small town called Kakching in the Indian state of Manipur. It sits right near the border with Myanmar. Vote The Environment is Vikram's third campaign with CAN, and it's time for him to be in the artist spotlight.

Tell us how you became an artist.
I must say my artistic [interest] comes from my father. [It had always] been my dream to become an artist.

What’s does Vote The Environment mean to you?
As a whole, Vote The Environment' gives everyone a chance to acknowledge the right to vote [in order to] change the environment.

How do you come up with your art and what is your process for creating the image?
I take lots of reference notes from [the internet] and every possible way. Then I try to convey the message in the simplest way. Sometime I sketch out on paper but mostly in digital.

What are you working on these days when you’re not designing for CAN?
I am a graphic designer working as an assistant art director in a renown news magazine company called Tehelka.

You can see more of Vikram's work on Behance and Talenthouse.

We've Given Away 4,000 Free Masks (and Counting)

August 24, 2020

We're excited to announce our new face mask collection that gives free masks to workers! For every mask we sell, we donate a mask to a essential worker who needs one. We've already distributed 4,000 free masks since July and we're so grateful to everyone who helped us get this project off the ground. A huge thank you to Coworker.org for getting our masks out into the world and to Economic Security Project for their generous support. Thanks to all the artists who contributed designs to this project and for always being so enthusiastic about our art campaigns. And thanks to you, our customers, for helping us get more masks into the hands of essential workers who need them! Our mask collection is growing fast and we thought you'd enjoy the story of how it all started. Thanks so much for reading and as always, thanks for wearing a mask! ~Team CAN

The Best Election Year Gifts for Feminists

August 10, 2020

Elections are coming and the excitement of change is in the air! As we gear up to vote in a few months and look forward to a better future, we can't help but think back to a century ago when the 19th Amendment was officially adopted and women finally won the right to vote. It's been a hundred years and we've come a long way, but there are is still plenty of work to be done, which is why we've partnered with independent artists to create a collection of the best feminist gifts as we head into November. Every feminist gift we sell helps support UltraViolet organization in their hard work to advance the cause of all women, and we won't stop marching until there's equality for all.
